The channel features video clips of real working steam where it was to be found in the 1990s and early 2000s. With new opportunities to see real working steam now limited to China, Java, Bosnia and Zimbabwe (and in all of these countries, it is going fast), I am now uploading some of my earlier footage to RUclips. Since around 2000, I have been producing and selling DVDs of digital, HD and now 4K real working steam with a bit of preserved railways and charter steam. If you enjoy what you see here, let me know and it will encourage to put up more footage of Java, China, Turkey, Cuba, Poland, Bosnia, India, Germany, etc.

The plan was to have all of the 9 Motor Rail Simplex diesels allocated to the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway topping and tailing passenger trains and then all coupled together for a cavalcade up the line. In variable weather, sunny morning, wet afternoon, see how this was achieved. If you like narrow gauge diesels, especially those by Motor Rail of Bedford (my home town), this is for you.

Old Chinese Electrics

This is a rough edit of footage showing old electric locos and trams (mainly from the Japanese era) at Anshan Steelworks (along with the younger steam locos working there), Anshan trams, Changchun trams and a brief glimpse of Dalian trams outside the Dalian railway station (modelled on Tokyo's Uneno station, I believe). This footage is from the early 1990s taken on two different trips.

The starling murmuration at Aberystwyth happens over the beach around sunset each day in winter with the starlings performing a murmuration lasting around 20 minutes before peeling off and swooping down to their roosts under the pier. I observed this on 15 March 2024.

I remember seeing these in a very old book from the '80s called steam trains. This and insular lumber company's shay number 12 and mallet number 7. The thing I remember the most are the night shots especially of these Baldwins coming out of the jungle in the darkest of night with orange sparks flying everywhere on tracks almost entirely sunken into the ground It looks so wicked

Goon Morning. Thank you for this wonderful video, My school friend Chris travelled on this train in the late 60's and has often recalled the experience. I suspect he will be thrilled to see it. I a😃😃 modeler of narrow-gauge railways its fascinating and provides much material for future developments.

Excellent video ! What are those metal girder things the train is transporting?
They are empty log bogies - sometimes referred to as disconnects. When a long tree trunk is loaded two bogies can be move to be at either end of the log. The weight of the log on the superstructure is normally enough to keep them in place, but cables or chains are normally used to connect the two bogies together underneath the logs. The superstructures can rotate to allow the logs and the train to go round the bends. Often a number of trunks of similar length will be placed between two bogies. With loaded log trains you have to look out for branches and other projections which can make the train 'out of gauge'. Don't stand too close to the track! PG Sumberharjo has indeed been closed but in the locomotive yard there are still steam locomotives ready to be operated.
I wonder if they can still be operated and if there is any track for them to run on. Steam locos normally have one year boiler certificates which are issued after a series of tests. I doubt that these annual tests are being carried out. However, a visit to see the locos may be of interest to enthusiasts. Does the mill still have security guards in place - I assume so - and what arrangements would need to be made to access the yard to see them? I believe it was 2015 when the field lines closed and no steam locos were in action. My group chartered a loco and train of empties which we took around past the school heading to the fields in the east.
@@JohnRaby Unfortunately, now the lorry tracks of PG Sumberharjo no longer exist and many railroad bridges have been dismantled. Because my house is not far from PG Sumberharjo.

Now I can imagine how's the Staatspoorwagen tracks in Kediri. Or the Meritjan sugar company track to Susuhan station.

Are these the 1067 mm gauge locomotives or the much smaller one using 700 mm gauge rails?
It's Cape Gauge 3ft 6in same as the national network so that's probably 1067mm in new money.

@@JohnRaby I saw it at the opening of the 2024 milling season, but if I'm not mistaken after the opening of the mill the steam locomotive will only run when there is a rental or when it is needed, more precisely at a certain time the locomotive is running.

Yep, well spotted - speeded up x2. The sequence had no sound as the external mike wasn't properly plugged in. So, I thought 'opening sequence, speeded up, add some sound from a different sequence' although it is the real sound of Paul and Wilton.

It's a former field line. On one of Rob Dickinson's trips we had a train out on this line. I seem to remember one of the group put a Kijang in a ditch and we spend our time trying to get it out rather than in pursuing the steam charter. I also remember that it was uphill from the mill on a slight grade. For the record, I think it was probably the line that went out via maps.app.goo.gl/Rg4kPpYZMm1AQrRG7 Serabi Goes - where the dirt track looks like it was once a field line

I assume you are asking about the past as my memory is that the field lines at Sumberharjo did not re-open for the 2015 season. If that is your question, all the lines closed at the end of the 2014 season.

Hi John, I don't know anything about model railroading, but I've strong desire to build the Sha Tau Kok Branch Line. With the limited space I have, I've struggled a lot on what scale I should picked. Besides that, I couldn't find any 2 ft (610 mm) gauge W.G.Bagnall 0-4-4T (those used by VMC) on the model train market. I feel like totally stuck at some dead end!! Could you or anyone shred some lights in this dark tunnel?!
Some of these locos remind me of the big ones you see in the states. And theres a graveyard of ones waiting to be restored😊👍

For once you went to a rly I have been to, with Howard Jones. I am pleased to see it is still there. During our trip Howard Drove the std gauge loco Piekna Helena at the end of its working life, so that might help to date the tour.
